My name is Maria Isabel Guzman, owner of Equal
Latin, and I would like to share my story.
In the year 2000, I arrived in the U.S. as
a sixteen-year-old with no family and no knowledge of the English language.
My first job position was as a dishwasher in a small
restaurant. As I slowly learned English, I quickly
moved through the ranks- first as a prep cook and
eventually as a waitress and a cook.
When I arrived in Washington, I began working at a
restaurant where I went from waitress to manager
and stayed for 13 years.
Along the way, my family grew and I met people that
noticed and appreciated my work ethic.
